Sexually Transmitted Infections
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are infections that can be passed from one person to another through sexual contact, such as vaginal, oral, or anal sex. Some STIs can also spread through close skin-to-skin contact. Common STIs include Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HPV, and Herpes.
Many STIs don’t show symptoms right away (or ever), so it’s important to get regular checkups, use protection (like condoms), and talk openly with partners and healthcare providers. Most STIs are treatable, and many are preventable.
In many states, teens can get confidential STI testing without a parent’s permission. Patients can ask their provider for a confidential test, get tested at health clinics or visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website to find fast, free or low-cost testing near them.
